Goalkeeping heroics deny Rubery Ladies

GOALKEEPING heroics from Zoe Gillard broke Rubery Ladies' hearts as Webheath Colts advanced into round three of the Birmingham County Cup.

Webheath stopper Gillard made a stunning last minute save in the clash at Wythall on Sunday as her side won 2-1.

On a bitter cold afternoon, both keepers had very little to do in a game dominated by a midfield battle.

Webheath struck first with a goal from Kayligh Poole, but were soon pegged back when Emma Cope, one on one with the keeper, coolly slotted home the Rubery equaliser.

The second half started much as the first before Poole put the visitors in front once again.

Rubery fought back against a stubborn Webheath defence and in the dying seconds Laura Bromley looked to have secured extra time for Rubery, only for Gillard to deny
